JAMES Reid School held a democracy and participation event last Friday with pupils nominated or volunteering to stand for election for the pupil voice committee.

The pupils worked hard to prepare campaigns and presentations about why they would make good pupil voice committee members.

Pupils had to speak in front of the whole school and tell everyone about the changes which they would make to the school. Some pupils made a video in advance.

Headteacher John Hamilton said: “It was a great event and lovely to see parents, teachers, pupils and classroom assistants all working together in the interests of our school; however, only pupils were allowed to vote since it’s their committee.

“We are so proud of everyone who took part and the tremendous effort they put in.”

After four rounds of voting, the following pupils were elected to serve on the pupil voice committee: Early and Middle Phase A – Liam Craig, Middle Phases B and C – Skye McAlpine, Middle Phases D, E and F – Craig McAleese, Aydan Andrews, Senior Phase – William Watson and Alex Baker.
