MP PATRICIA Gibson has raised concerns at Westminster over the lack of travel insurance policies that cover holidaymakers if official travel advice to their chosen destination changes.
If it happens between booking and travelling, many people may be left considerably out of pocket.
North Ayrshire MP Ms Gibson, the SNP’s Consumer Affairs Spokesperson, raised concerns at Westminster on July 8.
She said: “Less than one per cent of travel insurance policies currently provide full comprehensive cover, despite a Which? finding that half of all respondents thought they would be fully covered for cancellation if the Foreign Office changed its travel advice.
“It’s therefore essential to obtain insurance with a provider that commits to refunds in such circumstances and travel insurance companies must be clear about their COVID-cover, clearly outlining to their customers exactly what is and isn’t included.”
Ms Gibson has been invited to meet UK Minister for Aviation Robert Courts MP, after challenging Transport Secretary Grand Shapps MP about the level of protection offered by travel insurance following the easing of restrictions.
