A WHIRLWIND first season for teams in conference F of the Scottish Lowland Development League finally drew to a close in May, with Beith Juniors 20s side getting their hands on the league title.

The turbulent inaugural league campaign saw 16 teams enter the league at the beginning of the season, with only NINE remaining come the last round of fixtures.

One of those teams that managed to see the campaign through were the Mighty’s young side, who pipped Irvine Meadow to the title by six points.

They had their champions status confirmed way back on April 23, and finally received their trophy and winners medals following the conclusion of their last game against Auchinleck Talbot on May 20.

That final match resulted in a 4-2 loss at Bellsdale Park - not that it mattered too much to the delighted Beith players.

It was only their second loss of the season, which across 16 matches saw them gain 12 wins and two draws.

They, of course, played more league games than this, however matches against sides who then withdrew from the league were discounted, with the points from these games removed in the process as a matter of fairness.

The journey doesn’t stop here this season either, with the Mighty having a cup final to look forward to before the season draws to a close.

They will face off in the last game of the Knock Out Cup West Final tomorrow, June 2, against Arthurlie, at Bonnyton’s Synergy Arena in Kilmarnock.

It will be the last time the side will be managed by current ‘gaffer’ Mark Young also, as he is due to take a step into managing a senior side next season.

He was confirmed as the new boss at Maryhill FC last week, and will be hoping to end his term managing this young Beith side as a double winner.

As for his players, this may be the last game for many at this level, and they will look to make their own first steps into the senior ranks of Scottish football, whether that is with Beith’s first team or elsewhere.

Wishing you the best of luck in the final, from all at the Herald!
