AN IMPRESSIVE group of young footballers have capped a remarkable season by completing a trophy treble.

The kids at Moorpark Primary School in Kilbirnie made sure this season was a historic one for their school team.

The Garnock Valley youngsters lifted the North Ayrshire Champions of Champions trophy last month - winning the competition for the school for the first time ever.

The trophy is competed for by teams from across different secondary school catchments in the area who performed well in their regional leagues.

It was the third piece of silverware for a Moorpark team who went unbeaten all year, having already claimed the Garnock Valley League Cup and the Corey Cup - which is held annually in Beith in memory of Corey Hamilton.

It was a wonderful way to cap off an impressive year, and led to joyous celebrations in the sunshine at Kilwinning Sports Club where the Champions of Champions finals were played.

One of the team's coaches told the Herald just how proud of the team's achievements they are.

He said: "I am so proud of the team's achievements this year. They have worked hard every Friday at training, and their hard work has paid off and been rewarded with their trophy wins.

"Personally I feel it had been made even more special this year as it is the first year Moorpark Primary have ever won this cup.

"But it is also the last year they will have in their current school as they will be moving to the new build in October.

"We also have to recognise the effort of these players who have come together and formed a team with some of the players only in Primary 5.

"The boys have done themselves and the school proud. I must also thank the parents who have supported us throughout the year."
