THE Post Office is still looking for applicants to open a new franchise on Kilwinning Main Street.

The area has been without a Post Office facility since the previous franchise closed alongside the RS McColl's store it was housed inside back in January of this year.

It is the second time that the Post Office has advertised for a franchise in the area - after looking for applicants back in December ahead of the closure of RS McColl's.

It was keen to replace the counter, advertising for "applicants to set up brand new Post Offices in this area".

At that time, the closing date for applications was May 2023, with estimated Post Office fees for this franchise in the range of £44,550-£49,500 per annum.

However, now, it appears that no one has taken up the opportunity, with a new advert posted once again looking for applications.

The advert states: "Post Office Ltd is looking for a successful retailer to either purchase the current business or incorporate a Post Office Local into their existing or proposed business."

This has been posted with a new closing date of September 27, though adds that the advert "may close early if sufficient interest is registered".

While this is not the only change, with Post Office fees now estimated to be in a much lower range of £7,920 - £9,900 per annum.

It is unclear whether this will make the franchise a more enticiing prospect for businesses.

Kilwinning Main Street has now been without a Post Office counter for over six months.

The nearest alternative Post Office facility is located on Sundrum Place in Pennyburn.
