Kilwinning: Scout leader Alister Kerr receives top honour

Alister Kerr was present with the Silver Wolf Award on Saturday, September 23 to honour his "lifetime commitment to active scouting" in his hometown.

Alister has dedicated a remarkable 55 years to the group, which has been acknowledged by the award, handed out for "service of a most exceptional nature".

And after receiving the award, the group leader was also hailed for the outstanding contributions he makes for young people in the town.

Kilwinning councillor Donald Reid commented: "I don’t think this movement can do any more for Kilwinning than they currently are on a shoestring budget.

"Each and every volunteer deserves our absolute thanks and acknowledgment.

"My special thanks to Alister Kerr, who has done so much for so long with many attempts to stop but the itch is still there and he still loves doing it.

"I don’t know what more I can do to say thank you to the organisation but I’ll be trying."

Alister received this high honour as the Kilwinning Scout Group held its annual "going up ceremony" which provides the opportunity to move young people up to their new sections.

He was one of a number of adult members who were honoured during the occasion.

Amongst the others, Liam Hamilton was presented with his Woodbeads Award for completion of his adult training.

Ian Harrop was presented with his Wood Badge for his role in the region while Lorna, Amy, Ali and Carolyn received the Chief Scout Commendation for good service.

For her amazing efforts at the group, district and region, Margaret Fowler was presented with the Bar to the Silver Acorn.

Katie Roy was honoured with the group's first King Scout Award - the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members.

A group representative said: "Katie was self driven to achieve all aspects of her award with distinction.

"Congratulations to all award winners and young people moving on.

"It was fantastic to celebrate and thank the strong Scouting leadership team in Kilwinning."
