THE name of the Saltcoats youngster who will kick off the town's 2023 fireworks display has been revealed.

The big event is to take place at the town's harbour on Saturday, November 4, with big crowds expected for the occasion.

Just like last year, when the event returned for the first time since 2019, a young local will be flicking the switch to start the display.

Seven-year-old Halle Lawson got things started last year, and this time around Saltcoats girl Erica Millar will be the one getting proceedings under way.

Nine-year-old Erica, a pupil at Mayfield Primary School, has been selected from regular attendees at the IMC Project in the town to carry out the very special job.

The event's organiser, Councillor Jim Montgomerie, is now hoping that the town will turn out in force and enjoy the exciting evening that has been planned.

He said: "I am really looking forward to this year's event because it brings so many from our community out and it's great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

"Although the fifth falls on a Sunday this year, our display is on Saturday because the company we deal with are doing major events and we are just a small display. Financially we just can't compete.

"We are really looking forward to seeing everyone and praying that it stays dry."

The event itself will be open from 6pm, with a fairground coming down to the harbour which will be open until 10pm.

The display itself will start, courtesy of Erica, at 7.45pm.
