Police are on the lookout for new volunteer special constables in Ayrshire.

The Special Constabulary is a part-time, volunteer body consisting of voluntary officers with identical powers to that of police officers.

Special constables work alongside police officers in their spare time – forging strong partnerships in the community, patrolling streets, preventing crime, and interacting with all kinds of people to give back, keep local communities safe and make a real difference.

It also provides excellent experience and training for those who would like to become a full-time police officer.

Anyone interested will have an opportunity to attend the special constables annual conference at the Scottish Police College in Tulliallan, Fife, on Saturday, May 11 to find out more.

The event will include discussions on the operational duties of a special constable, the recruitment process and the benefits of joining Police Scotland.
