BEITH travelled to the King George V playing fields last Saturday to take on Renfrew FC on league duty and despite dominating for most of the game and creating the bulk of the chances, had to settle for a share of the spoils as a goal apiece replicated the scoreline between the teams earlier in the season.

Beith started the better of the two teams and it was no real surprise when they took the lead after only four minutes when big Jack Craig, restored to his favoured left wing position, ghosted in at the back post to head home an inch perfect cross from Ryan Brown.

The game was a contrast in styles as Renfrew sought to counter Beith’s slick passing game with long ball route 1 tactics which the Beith defence dealt with admirably. The only disappointment from a great first half display, from a Beith perspective, was that they only had 1 goal to show for their efforts.

Renfrew were a tougher proposition in the second half, testing the referees authority with some rough challenges, but for the most part Beith remained resolute and composed. However, half way through the 2nd half they were dealt a cruel blow when a mishit corner from the hosts ricocheted off a few players and ended up in the back of Cammy Kings net.

Beith battled back chasing the winner their play deserved but when Scott Browns header glanced the outside of the post with two minutes to play, with the goalie beaten all ends up, it became apparent that Beith were to be left feeling deflated again.
