A VERY busy week for Fullarton Wheelers started off on Monday evening with the final event in the Winter League.

Event 10 is normally the clubs ‘Eglinton 10’, a virtual reality recording of the real TT course but in a change, it was decided to re-run the same course as Event One.

With a couple of regulars missing due to work and holidays, this was the chance to step up and say goodbye to winter

Gordon Graham took out the win in a time of 23:09. Second was John Todd in 23: 23 with Chris Blakely third in 24:19.

Notable mentions go to following that improved greatly from Event One - Brian Johnstone – 01:47, Jim Seenan – 02:31 and Joshua MacFarlane – a whopping 04:05 faster.

Catherine Logan took the ladies Winter League title and Jim Seenan wrapped up the Handicap title with Darren Kean prevailing again in the Scratch completion.

Five Wheelers turned out for the crit on Wednesday evening at Gailes. Four laps of the Magnum circuit had the blood pumping and lungs working hard as they navigated the course with speeds averaging 22mph.

Friday saw the re-commencement of the regular “quick hour”. Leaving Loans at 6.30pm, four members ventured out on a nice calm evening.

A wonderful weekend of weather had many riders out on their bikes. The club had four juniors competing in the first of the ‘Bella Crits’ at Bellahouston Park on Saturday morning.

Part of a 12-event race organised by Scottish Cycling. this was the first for a long while that the yellow of Fullarton was represented.

Special mentions go to Martha Hillard, Zoe Watters and Ryan Broadfoot and joint member Harry McGarvie for flying the flag.

A large group of 21 met at Irvine Cross on Sunday for their weekly club run.

With the approaching Mallorca holiday on the horizon, a bumpy route was selected to get in some hill climbs.

Leaving Irvine, the bunch headed through Kilwinning and onto the Blair road into Dalry.

Heading towards Kilbirnie, the route ascended the Swinlees Quarry climb before turning left in the direction of Largs and descending the fast Haylie Brae - a firm favourite of the club.

Following the coast road south, the group turned left just past Hunterston and up into the village of West Kilbride. ,A further left turn with some more climbing took the group back towards Dalry and onto the same road they travelled on an hour earlier.

Finally the yellow train cycled towards Kilwinning and back into Irvine before splitting and heading for home. The great weather made the 2500ft of climbing more enjoyable with around 45 miles covered.
